Stronger minds, healthier communities

What we do

The global mental health crisis has reached unprecedented levels – and it is continuing to grow. The World Health Organization estimates that 970 million people are living with a mental disorder, with these issues particularly prevalent among young people.

And yet, limited focus has been placed on addressing mental health worldwide, with mental health systems remaining particularly under-resourced in fragile and conflict-affected states. This situation has only grown more dire with the halt of US government support for humanitarian and development programming around the world.

Grounded Change was founded to expand access to evidence-based mental health support, empowering individuals and communities through education, advocacy, and culturally responsive care to foster resilience and well-being worldwide.

Our approach to affecting change is grounded in three ways:

  1. We provide mental health services that help to psychologically ground individuals, helping them to build resilience.

  2. Our approach to engaging with communities is bottom-up and our accountability is downward.

  3. When designing and evaluating projects, we leverage grounded theory, collecting deep contextual data.

Grounded Change works to provide mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) projects across the world. We focus on providing support amid crises and serving, in particular, marginalized communities, including women, children/youth, minorities, and LGBTQ+.
